Agri Stats
Deep profile · 2 linked library matters
Agri Stats sells detailed cost and production reports to meat processors. The Justice Department sued over those reports, and a 2026 settlement was proposed but not finally entered.
Overview
Agri Stats is a benchmarking firm. It collects granular data from poultry and pork processors and sells reports back to them. The Justice Department's case says the reports are current and specific enough to let rivals coordinate production and costs.
That is an information-exchange theory under Section 1. There does not have to be a meeting. The vendor can be the hub. Processors are the spokes. Both roles are in the public complaints that grew out of the protein antitrust litigation.
In 2026 the government announced a proposed consent that would restrict what Agri Stats can report. A proposed judgment is not an entered judgment. Private damages cases brought by purchasers sit beside the government file and are not paid by a consent decree.
The same structure — a vendor circulating rivals' sensitive data — is the theory in the RealPage rent cases. Agri Stats is the protein version.
Competition footprint
The DOJ information-exchange case is open until a court enters judgment.
A 2026 proposed consent would limit the reports.
Private protein cases seek damages the consent will not pay.
The hub-and-spoke data theory is the same family as rent-algorithm cases.
Consumer & business angle
Grocery buyers do not see the report. They see the price of chicken and pork.
A processor that stops subscribing may be the competitive act the case is trying to make possible.
What to watch
- Whether a judge enters the proposed Agri Stats consent.
- What data fields the decree actually bans.
- Private cases that continue after the government settlement.

Agri Stats protein data
US · 2023– · ongoing · 6 minThe US government says Agri Stats' reports helped meat companies see each other's numbers and soften competition. A 2026 settlement was proposed and had not been entered as a final judgment.
Outcome: The DOJ and states announced a proposed settlement in 2026 that would restrict the reports. Until a court enters judgment, the case is not closed, and private protein cases sit beside it.
Pork antitrust MDL
US · 2018– · ongoing · 6 minPork buyers finished a settlement with Agri Stats on September 10, 2026. That order does not close the packer claims.
Outcome: The Agri Stats direct-purchaser slice is finished. Unreleased packer claims keep the MDL on the live list.
