Competition record
Danaher
Deep profile · 0 linked library matters
Danaher's operating companies include Cytiva in bioprocessing, Cepheid in molecular diagnostics, and Beckman Coulter in lab testing. A biologic process locked to a Cytiva resin, or a hospital locked to a GeneXpert cartridge, does not switch mid-campaign.
Overview
Danaher is based in Washington and runs a set of separate brands rather than one label. Cytiva, built from the former GE bioprocess business, sells chromatography resins, single-use bags, and columns that biologics manufacturers write into their approved process.
Cepheid's GeneXpert machines sit in hospitals and use Cepheid cartridges for respiratory and other tests, a razor-and-blade pattern shared with Beckman Coulter analyzers. Thermo Fisher, Sartorius, Merck's MilliporeSigma, Roche, and Abbott overlap pieces of this map, but none replaces the whole installed base at once.
Changing a chromatography resin after a biologic is licensed means a regulatory comparability exercise. That is why Cytiva's competition happens at the process-development stage, years before commercial batches, and why service and consumables dominate later revenue.
Competition footprint
Cytiva resins and single-use assemblies specified in a license are a process input, not a commodity order.
GeneXpert placements commit a hospital to Cepheid cartridges for the assays they validated.
Beckman Coulter analyzers tie a core lab to reagents, calibrators, and a service contract.
Consumer & business angle
A bioprocess engineer who qualifies a different resin must prove the drug is still the same drug.
Hospital labs running GeneXpert overnight panels cannot swap cartridges with another vendor's box.
What to watch
- Which resins and single-use lines are written into new biologic filings versus Sartorius and Thermo.
- Hospital decisions to add or retire GeneXpert hubs as respiratory-testing demand normalizes.
