Competition record
Okta
Deep profile · 0 linked library matters
Okta sits between employees and the SaaS applications they log into, and Auth0 does the same for a company's own customers. Microsoft Entra ID is the rival that arrives already bundled with Microsoft 365.
Overview
Okta is based in San Francisco. Its Workforce Identity Cloud provides single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, and lifecycle management so that a joiner, mover, or leaver is enforced across thousands of applications.
Auth0, which Okta owns, is the customer-identity product developers embed in their own apps. Ping Identity is the independent alternative, but the structural contest is with Microsoft Entra ID, because many companies already pay for Microsoft 365 and get a directory with it.
Once application integrations, group rules, and device checks live in Okta, every SaaS vendor the company uses depends on that directory being up. Moving to Entra, or to Ping, means redoing those integrations and retesting login for each application.
Competition footprint
The number of SaaS integrations in an Okta tenant is the switching cost.
Microsoft's bundle of Entra ID with Microsoft 365 is the main reason customers leave or never start.
Auth0 tenants embed keys and login flows inside customer-facing applications that are slow to rebuild.
Consumer & business angle
Employees notice Okta as the login page that stands in front of Slack, Salesforce, and the rest of the stack.
Developers using Auth0 depend on its APIs for sign-up and, if the tenant is suspended, their end users cannot register.
What to watch
- Whether enterprises keep a neutral identity provider or collapse login into Microsoft Entra ID.
- Auth0 price changes for customer-identity logins, which hit software companies directly.
