EU DMA compliance — Amazon marketplace
2024–present · online marketplace, online retail
Amazon's European marketplace is under the Digital Markets Act. Brussels is still checking how seller data and the Buy Box work. That is separate from the American FTC trial.
The story
The DMA requires a gatekeeper marketplace not to use business users' private data against them and not to rank its own goods ahead of theirs.
Amazon changed European processes after designation. Supervision asks whether the changes are real.
The FTC case in Seattle is about US monopoly claims and has a 2027 trial date. It is not this file.
Why it matters
European sellers are the direct businesses.
A non-compliance decision would be a fine plus an order, as with Apple and Meta in April 2025.
What was claimed
Gatekeeper duties apply and are still being tested.
The other side
Amazon says its European marketplace complies and that ranking reflects what shoppers want.
What it means for you
EU listings may follow different data rules than US listings.
Bottom line
EU DMA supervision of Amazon's marketplace is ongoing. It is not the US case and not the closed 2022 commitment decision.
Timeline
2023
Amazon designated
The Commission designated Amazon's marketplace as a core platform service.
2024–2026
Compliance is supervised
Data firewalls and ranking are the duties under watch. No all-clear had replaced supervision.

Formal snapshot
Summary: Amazon is a DMA gatekeeper for its marketplace. Data use, ranking, and self-preferencing duties are still supervised, separate from the older Buy Box commitments and from the US FTC case.
Regulator / plaintiff argument: A gatekeeper marketplace must not use sellers' non-public data to compete with them and must not rank its own offers more favorably.
Outcome: Designation and the 2024 compliance deadline are behind it. Supervision and possible non-compliance work continued through 2026. The 2022 Buy Box commitment case is a different file.
